When she's not finding a joke in every situation, or getting asked to do everyone’s taxes (perfect daughter), Wendy leads Finance at a fintech company.

Grew up: San Francisco

Serene

From scoring the best deals at Costco to somehow getting more sh*t done saying “no,” Serene and her life hacks help us navigate our own lives with an efficiency that would make any Asian mom proud.

Liz

Liz runs a non-profit and investment firm, and still feels conflicted about her inability to perfectly cut an apple.

How it began

Like so many others, during the pandemic we were hunkered down in our homes surrounded by scary things like viruses and toilet paper shortages. Keen to find ways to pass time (and keep it together), we hopped on a Zoom call to catch up. One call followed another and eventually, turned to regular virtual dinner dates – a way to help each other get through the week and away from the world.

It kept coming up that our lived experiences were underrepresented and/or misunderstood—in society, at work, in our neighborhoods, at home. We were considered minorities on voter records, but not at work. We felt emboldened to speak up against AAPI hate, but stymied by silence from our own immigrant families. We were expectant parents, while navigating how to take care of our own. We identified with values from which we simultaneously felt estranged. Values like filial piety, humility, and hard work. We felt at once invisible and hyper-visible as Asian Americans. We wondered why no one else was talking about this.

Thus the Hot Pot podcast was born. And it has nothing to do with cooking! 🍲

Our mission is to elevate Asian American female voices, and help navigate (and celebrate!) our way in the world. We want to better understand our unique identities and our shared experiences in the context of being Asian American women. Through our conversations, we aim to capture an authentic representation of our community’s lived experiences.
